ED summons Anubrata Mondal's daughter for third time in cattle smuggling case

For the third time, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned TMC leader Anubrata Mondal's daughter Sukanya Mondal for questioning in the alleged cattle smuggling case in West Bengal. She was to be questioned in connection with the case because of the huge unaccounted assets and bank accounts directly related to her.

Sukanya Mondal, who is a teacher in a government-run government primary school by profession, has huge properties registered under her name.

Earlier, she was also summoned by the Central Investigation Agency, but she did not turn up. According to sources, the ED has sent Sukanya Mondal an email summons to appear physically before the investigating officer at the ED headquarters in Delhi next week. She missed the first summons on March 15 and sent a letter through her lawyer seeking more time to appear in Delhi. The ED is likely to take strong action against Sukanya Mondal if she remains absent for the third time in a row, sources said.

On 17 November 2022, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Birbhum district TMC president Anubrata Mondal to question him regarding his involvement in the cattle smuggling case. Anubrata Mondal was in judicial custody after he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which picked him up for questioning in the same cattle smuggling case.

When the ED arrested TMC leader Anubrata Mondal in their custody in Delhi in November last year, his daughter Sukanya Mondal was also summoned but remained absent.

Earlier, Manish Kothari, who is the accountant of Anubrata Mondal, was summoned by the ED in Delhi and arrested after lengthy interrogation in the cattle smuggling case. According to ED officials, Manish Kothari admitted that he was bound to carry out tasks ordered by TMC strongman Anubrata Mondal.

The Central Investigation Agency discovered more suspicious bank accounts after questioning Manish Kothari. Following this development in the investigation, the ED decided to question Sukanya Mandal once again.
